I spent a week in Yosemite and several times there were carved hearts, some with initials and some without. Does your love for someone entail vandalizing things to proclaim it? This example is a dead tree, but what about the live ones? How about KEEPING THE PRISTINE NATURE of the park?
This barely caught my eye as it was off the trail going to Yosemite Falls, but again in a live tree. The bark of these old pines are what keep them alive. Killing their defenses to show someone you love them is somewhat stupid. The divorce rate is something like 80%. These trees are older than you and are almost guaranteed to outlive your measly relationship, so why take the time to possibly kill them? For the nookie.... it's all for the nookie. With no outlook to the consequences.
